Spybot Search and Destroy Description

Spybot Search & Destroy is free privacy software. Spybot Search & Destroy will find and remove spyware from your computer. Spyware is tracking software that records your surfing habits and sends this information to advertising companies.

If your browser sometimes crashes or has toolbars on it that you never added, or your home page changes, you probably have a spyware problem.

Spybot Search & Destroy is compatible with most anti-virus software such as, Norton, Proofsoft, Bulletproof soft spyware remover and others. It is a free download, but if you like the program, donations are welcome.

To run a scan with Spybot Search & Destroy, click on the top button on the left side that is labelled Search & Destroy. A page will open with an empty list. To start the scan, click on "Check for problems". When the scan is complete threats are listed. Spyware is shown in red and usage tracks will be in green. The usage tracks can be removed if you want, but they are not really a problem. You can click on the red entries to discover what the threat is and where it came from.

If you never want to delete usage tracks, you can disable “usage track entries” in the settings part of the program. You can also choose to keep some tracks and delete others by right clicking on them.

Spybot Search & Destroy offers three different kinds of protection. They are:

1. The Immunize function prevents tracking cookies from being added to your computer. You can turn this function on by clicking “immunize”.
2. The Resident SDHelper function blocks bad files Internet Explorer may try to download. To start the Resident SDHelper function, click Tools, Resident and tick the correct checkbox under Resident Protection Status.
3. Resident TeaTimerwill prevent malicious software from running. It will ask you which of the following you want to do when it detects malicious software:
   1. Run the Resident TeaTimer software
   2. Kill bad processes

TeaTimer also asks you what to do if a registry change is detected. If you have denied an entry of a good program, you can change the decision using the menu you can open by right-clicking on the TeaTimer symbol in the system tray.

Spybot Search and Destroy Change Log

The probably last maintenance release of Spybot-S&D 1.6.2 is finally ready, available starting today on the first mirrors, with more becoming available as they're added. It will also be available through the integrated updater soon after it is online completely.

Among its bugfixes and new features are support for the latest Opera releases, support for Googles new browser Chrome, fixed support for fresh older Firefox installations, improved support for fast user switching while Spybot is running, plus a few more bugfixes.
